Freddie Mercury’s historic estate in London on the market for the first time since his death
A piece of music history changes hands: The former partner of rock icon Freddie Mercury is selling the magnificent Garden Lodge estate in London. A home that harbors love, art, and memories.
A jewel of architecture and history opens its doors
The musical legend Freddie Mercury acquired the impressive neogeorgian-style estate, Garden Lodge, in the heart of London in 1980 and transformed it into a sanctuary of creativity and tranquility. After the Queen frontman’s death in 1991, his close friend and former fiancée Mary Austin inherited the property. More than three decades later, she has decided to sell this historic gem. According to PEOPLE, the estate is available for offers over £30 million, approximately 38 million Dollar.
“The most beautiful memory box”
Mary Austin describes the estate as “the most beautiful memory box”, radiating “love and warmth” in every room. She shares that it was a joy to live in Garden Lodge, accompanied by many wonderful memories. “Now that it’s empty, I feel transported back to the time when Freddie and I first stepped through the legendary green door. It was a place of peace from the start, a true artist’s home. Now is the time to entrust this peace to someone else.”
Insight into the estate
Built in 1907, the estate impresses with a spacious living room, its two-story windows bathing the space in natural light. Here, Mercury composed the Queen hit “Bohemian Rhapsody” on his own piano, surrounded by a ceiling paneling he designed himself, with an emerald green border. The lively color palette of the room could have been inspired by Mercury’s childhood in Zanzibar and India. The lush garden with its large magnolia trees and oriental-inspired water motifs completes the picture of the estate.
A piece of history seeks new owner
Garden Lodge is now ready to open its doors to a new owner. An owner who appreciates the history and art that lies in every corner of this estate. A home that not only embodies a piece of music history but also represents a source of inspiration and peace.
